Simply Neutrals 48 - working in my mixed media journal

Forest journal - mixed media book by AppleApricot

Hello sweet friends!

Summer holidays are over, the kids are back to school, so I am back in Blogland! I hope you don't mind that I kept quiet during the summer holidays?

At the moment I'm really busy with an illustration/art course by the wonderful art agent Lilla Rogers, called Make Art That Sells. And besides the course my main focus at the moment is drawing a whole lot of all kinds of objects and living creatures, including human beings :) To practice practice practice.
I hadn't been working in the little mixed media books that I created (and which you can see some of HERE, HERE and HERE) and thought it was about time and wanted to draw a little tree in my forest book. I also added some lace that was gifted to me by SuziQ and Odetta, and a a clover four that I found and pressed. Not sure if these pages are finished yet. The whole book is a work in progress to which I keep adding bits and pieces here and there.

I'm wondering about the health of our trees lately, because we had such a dry summer here. It's been said that some of the trees really suffer and most likely some will not make it through autumn and winter...

FEATURE OF LAST MONTH

Thank you for joining in the fun again last month!

For the feature I chose this month a most gorgeous card created by dear Karen of Roosterhead Designs.

card by Karen of Roosterhead Designs

I chose this gorgeous work by Karen because I so much loved the romantic beauty of it - the layering, the aging, the textures, the beautiful image.

As you can see in the work of both Karen and me, I really don't mind some hints of colour here and there in the work you share with Simply Neutrals. As long as the overall feel of it is in neutral tones. If you know what I mean :)

Dear Karen, here is your feature blog button if you like:

On to this month's party!

SIMPLY NEUTRALS #48

To join the party, please keep the following things in mind:

1) Please link only to the blogpost that contains the photo(s) you want to share, and not to your blog's homepage.

2) Kindly link back to AppleApricot by putting a link to my blog in your blogpost.

Of course you're most welcome to use the blog button of Simply Neutrals Tuesday as well
(which can be found in the sidebar of my blog)

3) Link ups to both new and older blog posts are welcome.

4) You can link up from your blog, but if you do not have a blog but would love to link up from your instagram or other social media account, that's perfectly fine too.

Beware though, that may be not everyone can come visit and/or leave you a comment there.

5) Please take time to visit some of the other link ups and send them some love.

Time for the link up!

xx Wen

  1. What beautiful pages those words are too full of beauty. A stunning mixed media book which I am sure will be a real delight to flick through. I too wonder how our Tree's will fair this coming Season as we had so little rain during Summer Time and already some have started to lose their leaves before they have had chance to enjoy the gentle change of Summer to Autumn.
Congratulations to Karen for her sweet design.
Hope your Summer was restful, it is lovely to see you back in blogland.
    Creative wishes Tracey x

  3. Oh my dear Wen, such a beautiful spread- such very lovely details, and the text so very sweet. I love your adds of lace , flower and papers .
Also love Karen`s beautiful card, it is so filled with sweetness , and so adorable.
Dear friend, I hope to come back to here, very soon- next Monday is my final post for That`s Crafty ,-I have to stop because of stress ,IBS and such, so I sadly will end now in a few days. But that also means there will be more time, for me to take part in other things, not so demanding, like your wonderful Simply Neutrals . So hopefully see you here in September.
Love and hugs to you. Dorthe xx

  4. You both do such beautiful and elegant work, just brings a smile to my face. Hope you had a nice summer with the children. Also hope that your trees can recover from the lack of rain.

  5. I love the sentiment in the quote in your book and the simplicity of your tree. I did miss you over the summer but having kids at home is far more important than blogging. Alas my kids are grown and gone so those days are over.

  7. Hello Wen, It's lovely to be back here on your blog, reading all the wonderful comments and seeing your absolutely gorgeous journal spread featuring nature's beauty. Karen's card was exquisite - she is so talented too. I love its vintage softness and feminine beauty. She has such a knack for putting it all together!

I'm glad you've had a refreshing break, and I hope the Autumn is kinder to your trees. We are in drought here in Australia as we enter Spring, when things should be lush. We have already had several serious bushfires burning in April and in the Winter months in our area. It is alarming. A bushfire is burning in the mountains near us, under control, but any windy day can send it spreading all the way to the ocean, depending on wind direction. The fire season here has now become 6 months of the year. I am about to update our Bushfire Plan.

Then I will try to live each day as it comes and not spoil it by too much worry!
    Sending hugs to you,
    Jesse XOX
